HPS Jun 3 Weekly Update

High Park School Memo

Week of June 3-7

Message from Adrienne Owen, Principal

And just like that… it’s June!

As we enter the final weeks of the school year, I want to encourage students to think about how they want this year to be remembered, and work towards the goals they have for themselves as they look ahead to the upcoming summer break and school year ahead. End strong, as this will set you up for successful habits in the new year.

Exams are coming up in the latter portion of this month, and teachers are now wrapping up new content and beginning to focus on review and practice. Take time to review at home in small chunks starting now, as the small efforts you put in now will pay off big later!

Northern Lights Wheelchair Basketball Program

This coming week, Kindergarten to Grade 9 PE classes will be participating in the Northern Lights Wheelchair Basketball program at High Park, led by their regular PE teachers. This is an excellent program. Students are provided with the accessible equipment during PE to experience what it is like to play a sport while navigating a wheelchair, which presents unique challenges and opportunities. This program was very successful last year. Please be advised that expectations for student behaviours including positive communication and respect for diversity is expected and discussed as part of this program. Safety expectations and program-specific rules will be reviewed with students prior to beginning the play portion of each class. If you have any questions or concerns about this activity, please contact me at adrienne.owen@psd.ca.

School Supplies for 2024-25

School supply lists are now available on the website for grades 1-9. We also work with Write On Stationery to provide parents the option to order supplies to be shipped to the school. Happy shopping!Summer School

Summer school is offered through Parkland School Division for students in grades 2-6. Grades 2-6 Summer School offers academic mornings combined with active afternoons. Students choose one of two academic morning options (Literacy/Numeracy or French Immersion) and then all students enjoy afternoon programming that focuses on a variety of activities, provided through CFL's My PATH program. Afternoon activities may include recreational sports, outdoor adventure activities, horsemanship and performing arts.

Registration is open April 2 to June 2.
Classes run July 2 to July 12.

School Fees

Please check your Parent Portal to see if you have unpaid school fees. These fees are now past due. Accounts must be up-to-date before the end of the school year to avoid referral to our Accounts Receivable department in the upcoming school year.
