HPS Jan 8 Weekly Update
High Park School Memo
Week of Jan. 8-12
Outdoor Footwear and Clothing
The weather will be drastically colder than what we’ve been used to this week. Please ensure students are dressed appropriately for outdoor PE classes as well as recess. This includes a toque, mittens or gloves, snow pants, and a warm winter jacket. If you are in need of warm winter clothing for your child, please contact our office.
Please also make sure your child has an alternate pair of shoes to change into from outside to keep our floors clean and dry.
Ski Club
A consent form and information package will be sent home this week to families of students who have completed the registration form. Forms must be returned to the office by this Friday, Jan. 12, as our first ski club date is Jan. 19. If you signed up to volunteer, please watch your emails this week for more information about roles needed. If you have signed your child up for this activity already, please check your Powerschool account to pay for fees.
**Please note: As this is an extracurricular activity, school fee accounts must be in good standing in order to participate. According to our school handbook, students who join an extracurricular or athletic program are held accountable for their academic and behavioural choices and will be required to place these priorities first. Participation in extracurricular activities is a privilege that comes with responsibility. At the Principal’s discretion, students may be removed temporarily or permanently from a team, club or activity if they are not meeting the established expectations.
Breakfast Program
Just a reminder that thanks to our parent and grandparent volunteers, as well as the President’s Choice Children’s Charity and the Breakfast Club of Canada, we are able to provide daily breakfast for all students. The menu changes daily and includes items such as cereal with milk, toast, granola bars, yogurt and granola, fruit, and eggs. Breakfast is served in our nutrition nook between 8:15-8:35 daily. Please note that if your child has specific dietary restrictions or allergies, we may be able to accommodate these with advance notice. Please contact our office if you have questions or concerns, or to discuss suitable accommodations in these cases.
Visitors at School
For safety reasons, High Park School is a closed campus. All visitors and guests must report to the office, and all communications and deliveries to students should also go through our office. If you are dropping off items to your child, please come to the office first and we will get it where it needs to go. Unscheduled classroom visits can be disruptive to learning activities and school routines, so we ask that parents do not proceed to classes unless approved to do so.
School Fees
All field trip feeds for pre-planned field trips have now been posted to Parent Portal. Statements have been emailed out to parents. Please login to your Parent Portal to pay fees online.
Hot Lunch
Hot Lunch is offered to students by the Parent Advisory League from October to May. More information can be found on our High Park school website under the Lunch Program. You must register each school year in order to place an order. The code is always HPHL. The deadline to order hot lunches for February is January 25.
Christmas Concerts
Thank you to all who attended and supported the Winter Wonderland Extravaganza shows this year! We had two amazing performances and we are so proud of all of our students’ efforts. Check out some of our favourite shots from the stage!
Over two nights, we raised just under $1000 in donations towards the Parkland Food Bank. Thank you for your support!
Pancake Breakfast
Huge thanks to our parent volunteers who came out to serve a pancake breakfast for all students on December 21st! We really appreciated it!
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give me a call at the school office at (780) 963-2222 or email me at adrienne.owen@psd.ca to connect.
