Sept. 26 HPS Parent Update

Hello High Park School Families,

Truth and Reconciliation Week & Orange Shirt Day

This week is an important week of reflection and action in our schools. Truth and Reconciliation Week will include a variety of classroom-based activities that surround learning about historical truths, acknowledging suffering, and recognizing the need for reconciliation moving forward. Throughout the week, we will have a variety of learning opportunities in our school, including an Elder visit in our library, student presentations, art activities, and story sharing, as well as honoring Orange Shirt Day on Thursday. Please consider wearing orange on this day in recognition of those children who attended residential school - those who survived, and those who never returned home. We will also have orange shirt pins available at the school on this day for students. A reminder that Friday, Sep. 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, now a provincial and federal holiday, so there is no school.

We recognize that these topics can be difficult and sensitive for many, and our staff consider the age and maturity of students involved when planning learning activities. However, it is normal for children to have many questions and feelings. Please reach out if you feel your child needs additional support.

Terry Fox Run

Thank you to all who supported our students and school event with donations to the Terry Fox Foundation, by coming out to complete the run/walk with your child on Friday, Sep. 23, and also those who volunteered to help as route marshalls along the way! We sincerely appreciate the community support and together we raised over $1600 towards cancer research, well over our goal of $1000. Donations can still be made online at https://schools.terryfox.ca/5937 if you wish.

Parent Teacher Interviews

These will be held on October 12 and 13 from 4:30-7:30. Oct. 12 will be reserved for virtual meetings, and Oct. 13 will be available for both in-person and virtual meetings. Please stay tuned for booking details for these interviews next week.

As always, should you have questions or require more information please feel free to reach out to Mr. Oldham or myself at the school or via email at dave.oldham@psd.ca or adrienne.owen@psd.ca. Please follow us on Facebook/Instagram and our website for updates and information throughout the year.
