Sessions and Support for Parents and Caregivers

Alberta Parenting for the Future provides free programming for parents and caregivers. Please see their Fall Program Guide for more information.

October 2023 Stronger Together Newsletter

Check out the October Newsletter for a wealth of information on community resources for parents and families.

Lifetouch School Picture Day

School pictures will be taken on Sep. 26 for K-9 students, with an opportunity on Sep. 27 for any students absent on Sep. 26, as well as the Monday/Wednesday Kindergarten classes, to have their photo taken. Ordering information will go home following this to be placed online.

Orange Shirt Day and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Our school will be recognizing Truth and Reconciliation Week with a variety of learning activities throughout the upcoming week. On Friday, Sep. 29, we will mark Orange Shirt Day, out of respect for those who survived and were lost to Residential Schools across Canada. Please consider marking the occasion with us by wearing orange and taking part in community events that help us learn, reflect, and reconcile the past with our present and future. We all heal together.

PAL Casino Fundraiser

PAL says… We need volunteers for our upcoming casino fundraiser! The single biggest monetary impact you can make on our school is volunteering for this event. We make $18-$20,000 for the school during this 2-day event! Volunteer with your significant other and make it a date night! Dates are December 17th and 18th and shifts are 11am-7pm, 6:30pm-2:30am, or 11pm-2:30am - both days. We still need to fill 19 spots. If you have any questions or you can help, please send an email to highparkschoolpal@gmail.com

Breakfast Program

We offer a daily breakfast program to all students from 8:15 to 8:30am. The menu varies weekly and includes toast with jam or Cheez-Wiz, Cheese, Fruit, Cereal with Milk, Applesauce, Granola Bars, Yogurt and Granola. Please ensure any food allergies your child has are communicated to the school and on file with our office.

Visitors at School

For safety reasons, High Park School is a closed campus. All visitors and guests must report to the office, and all communications and deliveries to students should also go through our office. If you are bringing something to your child, please ensure you come to the office and we will get the item where it needs to go. Unscheduled classroom visits can be disruptive to learning activities and school routines, so we ask for your cooperation in this matter.

Terry Fox Run

Thanks to the support of our community, we raised a total of $826.00 for the Canadian Cancer Society by participating in the Terry Fox Run on Friday, Sep. 22. Thank you for your support in continuing Terry’s Marathon of Hope.

School Council Communication List

As part of the registration process, parents can provide consent to share their contact information with the school council chair. From time to time, you may receive email communication from school council or the Parents’ Advisory League, who coordinate fundraising activities that support various school initiatives. If you would like to be added to the email group to get communication regarding upcoming and past council meetings, please email highpark.scchair@partner.psd.ca to be added to the communication list.

School Fees

School fees will be posted to Parent Portal at the beginning of October. Statements will go out to parents by email when they are ready to be paid.

Hot Lunch

Hot Lunch is offered to students by the Parent Advisory League from October to May.  More information can be found on our High Park school website under the Lunch Program. You must register each school year in order to place an order. The code is always HPHL. The deadline to order hot lunches for October is Monday, September 25.

Attendance

A reminder that if your child must be absent from school for any reason, it is important to notify our office by phone or email. Regular attendance is very important to your child’s success at school, and we do miss our students when they are away. If we do not know of the reason for your child’s absence, our office will make a call home to inquire for safety and reporting reasons. We appreciate your prompt communication of student absences with our office staff.

Utensils for Lunches and Snack/Breakfast Program

We will no longer be supplying cutlery to students as it is at a significant cost and we are also trying to reduce waste. Please ensure your child has a set of utensils in their lunch each day.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give me a call at the school office at (780) 963-2222 or email me at adrienne.owen@psd.ca to connect. I look forward to a great school year together!
