HPS Jun 19 Weekly Update

Parent Memo

Allergy Awareness and Prevention

We have a number of students in our school with severe, life threatening food allergies, including the following ingredients:

  • Dairy
  • Wheat
  • Eggs
  • Mustard
  • Peanuts
  • Tree nuts

The best way to prevent an allergic reaction is by washing well with soap and water after eating anything, as there are many ingredients that may pose challenges. We ask our parent community to help reinforce this habit with their children, as we do at school, to assist with prevention of a severe allergic reaction. This is especially important during special event days, which happen frequently at this time of year, when students are outside of their normal classroom environments. Thanks for your support with this!

Elementary Field Day/Fun Day

Friday, June 23 will be High Park’s 2023 Elementary Fun Day! Fun Day Celebrations will be from 1:00 - 2:50 pm. We invite all Tuesday/Thursday kindergarten students to join the Fun Day activities accompanied by a parent/guardian. Please contact Mrs. Daniell if you would like to attend with your kindergarten student - denise.daniell@psd.ca

There will be a hotdog lunch for those who have ordered through the hot lunch system. Please note the deadline for ordering hot dogs is Monday, June 19! A concession offering treats will also be available in the afternoon.

Students in kindergarten through grade 6 will move independently from station to station. Students in kindergarten and grade one will be buddied up into small groups to go through their stations. All stations will be outside unless conditions are unsafe, so please come dressed and ready for any weather! Please send hats, water bottles, rain coats, sunscreen etc. with students in the morning. In addition, all students will have an opportunity to make a tie-dye t-shirt - please send your child with a medium-large size ziploc bag labelled with their name to bring their shirt home in. Thank you to our PAL for sponsoring the t-shirts for our students.

Students will move through the stations and get a punch card filled out for each activity. Once their card is full they can redeem it for a prize.

We would like to extend a HUGE thank all those who volunteered to help make this day a success, without parent volunteers these fun school activities would not be possible!

Concession Prices*:

  • Pringles - $1.00
  • Gatorade/Sunny D - $2.00
  • Chocolate Bars - $1.50
  • Water/Juice - $1.00

We are looking for your input to help guide a potential change in our cell phone and personal device policy for the upcoming school year. We appreciate your feedback!

Junior High Exam Letters

Letters went home last week with the exam schedule and details for students in grades 7-9. If you wish for your child to sign out and go home after their exam(s), you will need to return this form to our office as soon as possible.

Write On Stationery and School Supply Lists

It's that time of year to consider next year's school supplies.  High Park has been working with Write On Stationery for many years.  This is not a fundraiser and so they are able to pass on the best available price on all supplies.  If you would rather shop on your own, simply visit the HPS or Write On website for the Grade Lists.

High Park or Write-On supply lists.

School Fees

All school fees are now past due and statements were emailed last week. Please login to Parent Portal to complete payment for this year’s fees. You can also make payment to the school office by cash, cheque or credit card. If you are unable to make payment for school fees due to financial constraints, please contact our office as soon as possible to make alternate arrangements.

Hot Lunch

If your child will be absent and you’d like to pick up their lunch or send it to another child, please call or email the office at 780-963-2222 or highpark@psd.ca no later than 10:00 am the day of hot lunch. Please note that refunds are not available. The deadline to order hot lunches for the upcoming month is the 25th of the current month.
