HPS Feb 20 Weekly Update

 High Park School Memo

Week of Feb. 20-23

School Council and PAL Meeting

Our next school council meeting will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at 7:00pm, both virtually and in-person in the school library. The PAL (fundraising committee) meeting is held both in-person and online (link here) before the council meeting and begins at 5:30. We will be discussing school supplies for next year, as well as school photos, at the school council meeting - please join us if you want to share your feedback.

Alberta Education Annual Assurance Survey

Every year, parents of students in grades 4 & 7 are invited to complete a survey to provide feedback about how well our school is doing in a variety of areas. If your child is in grade 4 or 7 this year, you can expect to receive a code by mail. We very much appreciate you taking the time to complete this survey, as these results guide many aspects of our school’s annual Development Plan and help us to establish and evaluate our goals each year. We really do read and review your feedback about our school and programs. If you have any questions about this survey, please feel free to reach out to Adrienne Owen at the school office.

MADD Presentation - Feb. 20

On Tuesday, Feb. 20, MADD Canada is coming to High Park to present to grade 7-9 students on the dangers of impaired driving. Please see the attached school letter and parent information for more details.

100 Days of School

On Feb. 21 we celebrate being in school for 100 days! Our grade one classes are especially excited about this important milestone in our year, and they will be participating in activities in their classrooms. You may see a few staff looking extra old on this day!

School Fee Statements

School fee statements have been sent out for any outstanding accounts. Please make arrangements to pay these either through the Parent Portal or our office as soon as possible. Please note that an expectation for participation in many extracurricular activities is that school fee accounts are up-to-date.

Utensils at School

We are now fully out of disposable spoons and forks for student use and are no longer able to provide these at school. Please ensure your child packs the cutlery they need in their lunch each day.

Attendance Matters

We are now in the second half of our school year, and we continue to monitor and review student attendance. We encourage you to check your child’s attendance information using Parent Portal and do your best to help your child be successful by maintaining strong attendance and avoiding unnecessary absences from school. For example, consider scheduling non-urgent appointments outside of school hours, and booking holidays and vacations during breaks in the school calendar. Even a few days away per month can really add up!

Breakfast Program

Just a reminder that thanks to our parent and grandparent volunteers, as well as the President’s Choice Children’s Charity and the Breakfast Club of Canada, we are able to provide daily breakfast for all students. The menu changes daily and includes items such as cereal with milk, toast, granola bars, yogurt and granola, fruit, and eggs. Breakfast is served in our nutrition nook between 8:15-8:35 daily. Please note that if your child has specific dietary restrictions or allergies, we may be able to accommodate these with advance notice. Please contact our office if you have questions or concerns, or to discuss suitable accommodations in these cases.

Visitors at School

For safety reasons, High Park School is a closed campus. All visitors and guests must report to the office, and all communications and deliveries to students should also go through our office. If you are dropping off items to your child, please come to the office first and we will get it where it needs to go. Unscheduled classroom visits can be disruptive to learning activities and school routines, so we ask that parents do not proceed to classes unless approved to do so.

Hot Lunch

Hot Lunch is offered to students by the Parent Advisory League from October to May.  More information can be found on our High Park school website under the Lunch Program. You must register each school year in order to place an order. The code is always HPHL. The deadline to order hot lunches for March is February 25.

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give me a call at the school office at (780) 963-2222 or email me at adrienne.owen@psd.ca to connect.
