HPS Dec 18 Weekly Update

High Park School Memo

Week of Dec. 18-21

Outdoor Footwear and Clothing

It’s that time of year - please make sure your child has an alternate pair of shoes to change into from outside to keep our floors clean and dry. Please ensure students are dressed appropriately for outdoor PE classes as well as recess. This includes a toque, mittens or gloves, snow pants, and a warm winter jacket. If you are in need of warm winter clothing for your child, please contact our office.

Christmas Fun

This week, we have a few special days planned to help kick off the Christmas holidays!

  • Dec 18 - Grinch Day - Wear Something Green
  • Dec 19 - Whoville Hair Day - Crazy Hair Day
  • Dec 20 - Ugly Holiday Sweater Day
  • Dec 21 - Pajama Day

On December 21, our PAL group will also be preparing a pancake breakfast for all of our students. Thank you to our parent and grandparent volunteers!

Ski Club

A consent form and information package will be sent home (after Christmas Holidays) to families of students who have completed the registration form. If you have signed your child up for this activity already, please check your Powerschool account to pay for fees.

**Please note: As this is an extracurricular activity, school fee accounts must be in good standing in order to participate. According to our school handbook, students who join an extracurricular or athletic program are held accountable for their academic and behavioural choices and will be required to place these priorities first. Participation in extracurricular activities is a privilege that comes with responsibility. At the Principal’s discretion, students may be removed temporarily or permanently from a team, club or activity if they are not meeting the established expectations.

Visitors at School

For safety reasons, High Park School is a closed campus. All visitors and guests must report to the office, and all communications and deliveries to students should also go through our office. If you are bringing something to your child, please ensure you come to the office and we will get the item where it needs to go. Unscheduled classroom visits can be disruptive to learning activities and school routines, so we parents and guests not to proceed to classes unless approved to do so by office staff.

School Fees

All field trip feeds for pre-planned field trips have now been posted to Parent Portal. Statements have been emailed out to parents. Please login to your Parent Portal to pay fees online.

Hot Lunch

Hot Lunch is offered to students by the Parent Advisory League from October to May.  More information can be found on our High Park school website under the Lunch Program. You must register each school year in order to place an order. The code is always HPHL. The deadline to order hot lunches for January is December 25.

Traffic and pedestrian safety

As we near the darkest day of the year, December 21, we want to take a moment to remind drivers to be very aware of our little ones walking to and from school. We have noted that there has been an increase in drivers moving quickly through the streets or being a bit aggressive while our students are trying to cross the streets and crosswalks. Please be mindful of our pedestrians and pedestrians, keep a lookout for traffic around you!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give me a call at the school office at (780) 963-2222 or email me at adrienne.owen@psd.ca to connect.

Over two nights, we raised just under $1000 in donations towards the Parkland Food Bank. Thank you for your support!
