HPS Dec 11 Weekly Update

High Park School Memo

Week of Dec. 11-15

Grade 7-9 Youth Mental Health Presentation

This Thursday, Dec. 14, students in grades 7-9 will have the rare opportunity to hear from Dr. Paul Soper, a child and adolescent psychiatrist who works at the Glenrose Treatment Resistant ADHD Clinic. Dr. Soper is also the consulting psychiatrist to the Glenrose Hospital 3 Week Assessment Classroom and the Resiliency Program at the Misericordia Community Hospital.

Dr. Soper will share information with students about his work with children and adolescents with neurodiverse needs, and will discuss resiliency for youth. This presentation relates to a number of outcomes from the Grade 7, 8 and 9 Program of Studies. If you want more information about this presentation, or have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Mrs. Owen at the office.

Outdoor Footwear and Clothing

It’s that time of year - please make sure your child has an alternate pair of shoes to change into from outside to keep our floors clean and dry. This week, due to Christmas Concerts, Phys. Ed. classes will be held outside - please ensure students are dressed appropriately for outdoor PE classes as well as recess. This includes a toque, mittens or gloves, snow pants, and a warm winter jacket. If you are in need of warm winter clothing for your child, please contact our office.

Christmas Concerts

Our Christmas Concerts will be held this week on December 13 for Kindergarten to Grade 3 and December 14 for Grades 4-6. Both performances will begin at 6:00pm. Doors open at 5:30, and students must proceed to their homeroom class when they arrive at the school. Please see the this document with more details from Ms. Boison in preparation for these events.

PAL PRESENTS… Christmas Concert Bake Sale!

Just a heads up for when you are doing your holiday baking:

The Bake Sale is back this year and we are kindly requesting your delicious donations!

The Bake Sale runs the evenings of each Christmas concert, right after the entertainment finishes up. Donations of baked goods and treats should be dropped off at the office on the morning of either Christmas concert to be packaged and priced by our volunteers for that evening.

Our dates this year are December 13th & 14th and the proceeds from this fundraiser support the High Park music program. **Please note - we cannot be responsible for ingredients in any baked items. Please be aware that these items may contain allergens.

Ski Club

A consent form and information package will be sent home to families of students who have completed the registration form. If you have signed your child up for this activity already, please check your Powerschool account to pay for fees.

**Please note: As this is an extracurricular activity, school fee accounts must be in good standing in order to participate. According to our school handbook, students who join an extracurricular or athletic program are held accountable for their academic and behavioural choices and will be required to place these priorities first. Participation in extracurricular activities is a privilege that comes with responsibility. At the Principal’s discretion, students may be removed temporarily or permanently from a team, club or activity if they are not meeting the established expectations.

Visitors at School

For safety reasons, High Park School is a closed campus. All visitors and guests must report to the office, and all communications and deliveries to students should also go through our office. If you are bringing something to your child, please ensure you come to the office and we will get the item where it needs to go. Unscheduled classroom visits can be disruptive to learning activities and school routines, so we parents and guests not to proceed to classes unless approved to do so by office staff.

School Fees

All field trip feeds for pre-planned field trips have now been posted to Parent Portal. Statements have been emailed out to parents. Please login to your Parent Portal to pay fees online.

Hot Lunch

Hot Lunch is offered to students by the Parent Advisory League from October to May.  More information can be found on our High Park school website under the Lunch Program. You must register each school year in order to place an order. The code is always HPHL. The deadline to order hot lunches for January is December 25.

Traffic and pedestrian safety

As we near the darkest day of the year, December 21, we want to take a moment to remind drivers to be very aware of our little ones walking to and from school. We have noted that there has been an increase in drivers moving quickly through the streets or being a bit aggressive while our students are trying to cross the streets and crosswalks. Please be mindful of our pedestrians and pedestrians, keep a lookout for traffic around you!

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give me a call at the school office at (780) 963-2222 or email me at adrienne.owen@psd.ca to connect.
