Oct. 24 HPS Weekly Update

Hello HPS Families!

Welcome to another week of fantastic learning at High Park School. We want to say a special thank you to our community this past week for your support of our Cross Country Run on Thursday. It was great to see so many students getting out to actively enjoy the last of the amazing fall weather we have had. Hosting this event helped to raise funds for various school events, including our Sun Runners who organized the concession stand. If you have any feedback on this event, please let us know as considerations for future events.

Student Illness & Respiratory Illness Outbreak
Our school has recently had an outbreak of respiratory illness declared by AHS. In addition to the following measures, we will continue enhanced cleaning protocols for the duration of the outbreak.

If Your Child is Ill: We encourage anyone who is feeling ill to stay home from school. If you are exhibiting any of the key symptoms known for COVID-19, we encourage you to access one of the test kits that are also available at the school. Meanwhile, PSD will continue the following:
● Hand sanitizer will still be readily available at all schools,
● Students will continue to be reminded of the importance of thorough hand-washing hygiene,
● School staff will ensure that appropriate cleaning of high touch areas will continue,
● The frequency at which air filters are changed in PSD has also been increased and air handling/ventilation equipment in all schools has been adjusted to maximize the number of air exchanges within the schools.
● All schools will operate filtration systems that meet or exceed the Minimum Efficiency Reporting Values(MERV) 13 air filtration rate, and
● Where practical, entrances and exits can be used to efficiently reduce crowding during high traffic times of the day.
Should you require test kits or masks, please contact the school office by email at Highpark@psd.ca or by phone at 780-963-2222.

Hot Lunch
Ordering is open for November’s hot lunches at https://hpspal.hotlunches.net/admin/?sid=&un=0 until this Tuesday, October 25. This week’s Wednesday hot lunch is from Edo. If your child will be absent and you’d like to pick up their lunch or send it to another child, please call or email the office at 780-963-2222 or highpark@psd.ca no later than noon. Any leftover lunches will be donated to our nutrition nook, and please note that refunds are not available.

Choir
Choir is running this week on Day 3 at lunch time! Choir is for students in Gr. 3-6 and runs until Christmas. We have 3 events scheduled: Remembrance Day Ceremony on November 10th, Sing for Santa on December 10th (Optional participation - forms to follow), and the K-3 Christmas Concert on December 21, 2022 at 6:00PM. Permission forms are being sent home on Friday and are also available from Mrs. Schellenberger. If you have any questions, please email Mrs. Schellenberger at alexandra.schellenberger@psd.ca

Halloween Activities
Homeroom teachers will be communicating their Halloween activities with families this week. A few things to note about Halloween:
● Students can bring their costumes to school and get dressed after lunch. Please do not send your child to school in their costume in the morning.
● Classroom activities vary from class to class - please connect with your child’s teacher for details.
● Please ensure that costumes are school appropriate and respectful, and do not include weapons. Please also reference these guidelines for a safe and inclusive Halloween. Our standards for student dress remain in effect for Halloween. Please see the School Handbook for details on these standards.
